Three ways to consult
In person at PPK Hospital, Marthandam. The daily outpatient clinic is the main practice — full examination, same-day laboratory testing, and admission or ICU care available on the same campus if needed. Best for first consultations, foot problems, insulin starts, and anything that needs examining.
At a monthly camp near your town. Ten towns across Kanyakumari district and southern Kerala host consulting days: Swamiyarmadam, Thuckalay, Nagercoil, Colachel, Kulasekharam, Kollemcode, Parassala, Neyyattinkara and Trivandrum. Dates are published on each town’s page and announced on WhatsApp once confirmed.
By video, from anywhere. Follow-ups, report reviews, dose adjustments and second opinions for patients in Chennai, Bangalore, Salem, Tindivanam and beyond. Particularly useful for families arranging care for elderly parents from another city.
How booking works
Send a WhatsApp message — or tap Book and fill the short form — with your name, town, phone number, and what the consultation is for (new diagnosis, review, second opinion, foot problem, insulin question). You will be offered available times for whichever of the three formats suits you. Before the visit, photograph your reports and current medicine strips and send them across; this lets the consultation start from information rather than from reconstruction. You will receive a confirmation message with the time, place and anything you should carry.
Preparing for your consultation
The single biggest determinant of a useful first visit is what you bring. Carry all recent blood reports — HbA1c above all, plus fasting and post-meal sugar, kidney function, lipids and urine tests if done — and every medicine you take, in its strip, including tablets prescribed by other doctors and anything bought over the counter. If you check sugar at home, bring the diary or the glucometer: the pattern across weeks tells the doctor far more than one reading on the day. Write down the questions you keep forgetting to ask, and mention symptoms you have been dismissing — burning feet, blurred vision, unusual thirst, wounds that take weeks to close. For elderly patients, a family member who will actually manage the medicines should attend.
After the consultation
You leave with a written plan: your medicines and what each one does, your personal sugar targets, food guidance in terms of the meals you cook, and a review date. Test reports that arrive later can be sent on WhatsApp for review without another trip. If the plan needs adjusting between visits — a low-sugar episode, a new symptom, a report you do not understand — message rather than wait for the next appointment. Continuity is the point of this practice; a question asked early is usually a complication avoided.
Emergencies are different
Do not use booking, WhatsApp or video consultation for an emergency. Call 108 — the free government ambulance — for sudden weakness or face drooping, difficulty speaking, chest pain or breathlessness, unconsciousness, or very high sugar with vomiting and drowsiness. PPK Hospital, Marthandam runs 24×7 emergency and ICU care.

Recent blood reports (HbA1c, fasting and post-meal sugar, kidney tests), all current medicines or insulin in their strips, previous prescriptions, and your home sugar readings if you monitor. Also bring a note of your other illnesses and any symptoms you have been ignoring.
Yes — video consultations are designed for exactly this, and family members can join the call from another city. They work well for review visits, report discussions, dose adjustments and second opinions. A physical examination — feet, wounds, blood pressure — still needs an in-person visit.
No. Booking is for planned consultations only. In an emergency — chest pain, stroke signs, unconsciousness, very high sugar with vomiting or drowsiness — call 108 for a free ambulance and go to PPK Hospital's 24×7 emergency department in Marthandam.
